Cost of Living in Mexico City for Remote Workers (2026)
NOMADA · 3 min read

A line-by-line monthly budget for a remote worker in Mexico City: rent, food, coworking, transport and insurance, with lean, comfortable and generous versions.
A remote worker living centrally in Mexico City should budget roughly $1,500–$2,600 USD a month in 2026. Rent is most of it: a central one-bedroom runs about $950–$1,850. You can live well on less by choosing Narvarte over Roma Norte, and by eating the way the city actually eats.

Three versions of the same month
Lean, about $1,100–$1,400. A coliving room or a furnished place in Narvarte or Del Valle, market shopping, a comida corrida most days, metro and Metrobús, and a cheaper coworking membership.
Comfortable, about $1,800–$2,300. A one-bedroom in Roma Norte or Condesa, a coworking membership, eating out several times a week, and taxis at night. A published Roma Norte nomad budget lands at about $2,350 a month, with $1,400 of that rent.
Generous, $2,600 and up. Polanco or a serviced apartment, a gym and a spa, restaurants rather than fondas, and travel at weekends.
Where the money actually goes
- Rent dominates. Moving from Roma Norte to Narvarte can save $400–$700 a month for the same size apartment. See the neighborhood comparison.
- Food is cheap if you eat locally. A comida corrida — soup, a main, a drink — is one of the best-value meals in any big city. Imported groceries and brunch in Condesa are where budgets quietly break.
- Coworking is predictable. About 2,900–4,500 MXN a month, or 250–500 MXN a day. Compare spaces.
- Transport is almost free by rich-world standards. The metro and Metrobús cost a few pesos a ride. Ride-hailing at night is the main expense.
- Health insurance is not optional. Budget $50–$100 a month for decent international cover.
Two things that change the maths
The peso. Your costs are in pesos and your income probably isn't. A 10% currency move changes your budget as much as changing neighborhood.
Housing type. Coliving bundles bills, cleaning and a desk into one price, which is often cheaper than it looks. See coliving vs Airbnb vs a furnished apartment.

Where NOMADA fits
We're building NOMADA, so read this section knowing we have an interest. It will put a private studio or one-bedroom, a coworking floor, a gym, a spa and a restaurant in one historic building in Mexico City, with meals for residents priced deliberately below what the same food costs outside. The aim is to make the monthly total predictable. It won't be the cheapest option in the city, and the budgets above still apply if you want it to be.
